As of today, three years have rolled by since the wet waste composting unit was commissioned by Ms. Supriya Sahu IAS., Additional Chief Secretary of Environment, Climate Change, and Forests.
We at Clean Coonoor are happy to inform that we have managed to turn 7998 metric tons of food waste into 1200 tons of Grade-A Compost, of which nearly half has been issued to farmers at a very nominal price.
Much more important is that the entire effort translates as a CO2 equivalent savings of 638 metric tons.
It may be argued that there are methods other than composting which generate a much lower carbon footprint, but unlike the others which have a handling range and an upper limit, windrows can take in volumes both large and small, a feature common when it comes to dealing with municipal waste.
Its quite a coincidence that on this very month we have touched a all-time monthly high of 293.5 metric tons of wet waste delivery.
We thank all our funders and well-wishers for having made this possible and we hope to strive better in the coming years.
